The Outdoor Adventure Kind Dog Pack

Central to my personal journey and discovered love for outdoor adventures are my canine companions: Taylor, Bailey, and Ruby. All three bring something different to the adventure, and have joined me for different parts of the journey. The Outdoor Adventure Kind Dog Pack makes regular appearances in my social media; they help share stories of adventure, as well as tips for enjoying the outdoors with your own four-legged friends.

Meet the Pack

Taylor

Portrait of a red-brown dog with alert ears, his face white with age, and a green collar.

The least-adventurous of the trio is my “old man” Taylor. At 13 years old, this Italian greyhound mix is over the whole “adventure” concept. He just wants to enjoy a peaceful retirement in the sun. Unfortunately, we live in Northwestern Oregon, so those warm, blissful days are limited during the year. He compensates with a raincoat, and with plenty of blankets. If he must join in some outdoor excursion, it’s limited to shorter treks on easy trails or car camping. (He tried backpacking exactly once. Never again, he tells me.)

Bailey

A gray dog with white on her neck and chest, wearing a green collar, in a green lawn; her tongue is out and she appears to be grinning.

My number one trail companion is The Outdoor Adventure Kind of Dog herself, Bailey. There’s no adventure too big for this pit bull mix, and she takes her role very seriously. I have pictures to prove it! She was adopted into the pack specifically to join me on outdoor excursions. It was obvious from her very first hike that she belongs on the trail; she excitedly carries her own pack, knows her gear, and loves to go backpacking. Adventure dog etiquette, with a splash of canine gear insights, are Bailey’s passion. She looks forward to sharing all her tips and tricks!

Ruby Mae

A reddish-brown puppy with white on her nose, neck, and chest, wearing a red collar and a black harness and in a green field with small yellow flowers in the background; one ear is standing straight up, the other is flopped over across the top of her head. A piece of grass is sticking out of her mouth.

The newest member of The OAK Dog Pack is young Ruby Mae. As a puppy, she has a lot to learn before she’s ready to set paw on the trail. And she is already showing so much potential! Bailey has taken on the role of adventure mentor, showing her the ropes as we go on little urban hikes to perfect leash manners and other etiquette. Ruby is eager to learn! She will be sharing her journey with The Outdoor Adventure Kind readers as she grows up, gets trail-ready, and tackles new challenges.

Pack Knowledge

Each member of The Outdoor Adventure Kind Dog Pack brings a unique personality to my adventures. Between the three of them, the pack has an ever-growing knowledge of ways to tackle trails on four legs. I’m excited to wrangle all of that experience here and help you enjoy outdoor adventures with your own dogs. If you have question or comments on getting outdoors with your pets, send me a message. All the links to connect with The Outdoor Adventure Kind are at the bottom of this page, and I would love to hear from you!

    • Thank you! 🙂 Just wait until you get to meet Ruby in person. Those ears are going to melt your heart. She’s going to be an awesome adventure dog, especially with Bailey as her mentor!

  1. I love this article! So happy Ruby made it into your lives, and that Bailey is being such a good mentor. Woof, woof!

    • Thanks Becka! I know you’ve gone through (are going through) a similar process with adding a pup to your pack. It’s so great to see the adult doggos step in and teach the little ones, isn’t it?
